To back up or not to back up

Friday, November 03, 2006

Today we had a pow-wow (sp?) on networking and equipment and backup solutions. It was good to go through, and I need to be better at that than I am. I don’t know what it is in me to say that it’s not that important, perhaps it’s just not wanting to take the productive time out of the day (you know- the part where I am awake) and use it in not being productive. One could argue that having a good backup is being productive, but that’s only true if (and that’s the big word)

things go sour. Not knowing forces the arm behind the back and makes you cry ‘Uncle’.
I’m not sure what the best solution is, but in trying to back up some files today, my DVD burner can’t make a copy w/ out errors, then my portable drive (used to back up on my

other

computer) quit half way through. Needless to say it was easy to just say forget it and go home. Which I did!
Well, TL needed a ride to his car (getting the snow tires put on) and after that it was supper time, so I went for that. Then I needed to stay and ‘oversee’ Noby and her friend when the rest of the fam went to a rewards banquet for Titus and his track team. It was good to stay home for one evening.
We watched ‘Over the Hedge’. I could comment on that—but will refrain at the moment.

Back to the main page.

please comment on over the hedge.

Now, why doesn’t that surprise me that you would leave such a comment?

Ok - here it goes.

Artistically, Animationally (sp?), I thought it was great (though I would not want to have to build it. Whew.) It had several points to making a good story - The Chase, The Kiss (well, it was a hug…), The Mystery, The Transformation. It has been said that if you have 2 of these in your ‘story’, you are doing well. Three? Even better. Four? Man, that’s great. The one that is missing in this is The Origins. That being said, story-wise, though it did include these types of stories, I don’t think it did well in a couple categories for sure (The Transformation, The Mystery, The Kiss, specifically.) I know a good Book that has all 5 and not only once, but each many times over.

However, in my opinion, this story is based on stealing, lying, deception, ignoring your conscience and ‘the end justifies the means.’ While there was a change of mind in the end, you had to endure most of the movie to get to that point. Even then, it wasn’t taken very seriously.

I never did like talking animals either. Here get into the blur within creation - where animals should be distinct from people. Don’t get me started on talking vegetables. While it does seem ‘harmless’ up front it is non-the-less a stepping over the bounds set by the Creator. In our day and age, we are so used to this (from Disney way back when) that it means almost nothing anymore. Is it a big deal? Honestly, I don’t really know. Narnia is the same way. Bottom line—I don’t have a firm stand on this point. Yet.

Imagination is good, and I believe we should use ours. I’m just not convinced this is the right place for our imagination to run.

I can say that I did not get lost in the story, so I’m sure others would have a different take on these.

That’s all for now.

i had never thought about talking animals and vegetables in that way.
you’re right…imagination must be kept in God’s bounds. there’s a lot done in the name of creativity and art that is a disgrace.
